YogaSport's - New Student Top 10
Welcome to YogaSport, Dallas' only Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga Affiliate Studio! We're very happy you joined us. This list should help you on your journey as a newbie at our studio. When you come to class, don't forget to bring a yoga mat, a bottle of water, and a towel. We rent towels and mats and sell water, if you ever need them. Also, we lock the outside doors for safety once class begins. Don't get locked out! Show up early to get a spot and decompress.
1. Come back.
You've probably just finished your first class, and you're thinking—wow. I feel energized and alive. Or, you might be thinking - whew! I'm a little tired. Either way, we encourage you to come back and attend class three times this week. It's going to take you about ten classes to get used to the heat, humidity, the sweat, and of course, the yoga. Most likely, you're going to be sore. The great part about that is, your body is changing, and it is already stronger. Know what makes you feel better? More yoga!
2. You Must Drink Water! Got it?
Staying hydrated is very important. 2.5 liters before and after class should do the trick. And no, coffee and soda don't count, so put down that Diet Coke and fill up your eco-friendly reusable water bottle several times today. We also suggest replenishing with electrolytes. We sell Ultima and Emergen-C, powders you can add to your water, as well as coconut water, a natural and tasty electrolyte replenisher.
3. Stay in the room during class.
We turn up the heat to around 88 degrees so our muscles can properly loosen up. If you feel dizzy, child's pose usually does the trick. Of course, if you have to use the restroom, please feel free to do so.
4. Get cozy with your sweat.
You might find that it's rolling off you in waves, and that might make you a little self conscious. Don't worry about it. That's what we want to happen. It's healthy and cleansing. Trust us - the person next to you is not thinking about your sweat hitting the mat. Speaking of mats, you might want to bring a Yogitoes or a full-length towel to put on top of your mat, since sweat - even though it's awesome -can cause some major slippage.
5. Come to class with an empty stomach.
For us, not eating for about two hours beforehand usually does the trick. This helps you avoid nausea and feel as light as possible. However, this does not mean don't eat all day so please come nourished!
6. Enjoy your journey.
You might not have noticed, but we put curtains over our mirrors here at YogaSport. That's because we want you to enjoy your journey, which is about so much more than watching the girl next to you do a headstand, or thinking about how funny you look during tree pose. We are proud to have assistants in many of our classes to help guide you and make sure your form is spot-on, so you can just relax, be in the moment, and move like you've never moved before.
7. Every class is different.
Our bodies feel different from day to day, so it's only natural that our yoga practice would change daily, too. This is a good thing. If you've got cement legs one day in class, the next day you'll probably feel like the strongest version of yourself (and vice versa). You also may feel weepy or emotional during certain postures. This is also a good thing. We tend to hold stress and tension in our muscles so you are releasing emotional, as well as physical, stress from your body. It’s all part of the yoga experience.
8. Try different teachers.
All of our teachers are trained in the Baptiste method, and of course, they're all amazing. But it's good to get some variety in your life. You never know - changing teachers might challenge you, or relax you, or inspire you more than you ever thought possible.
9. Shower, please.
This might seem simple, but it's important. As we mentioned above, there's a lot of sweat involved with our kind of yoga. Which is great. But this means you need to wash your Yogitoes after every time you practice (adding 1/2 cup of white vinegar with your detergent to your wash works wonders on sweaty smells). We also recommend wearing Dri-Fit clothes, and of course, washing those after each practice, as well. Your yogi neighbors and instructors thank you in advance.
10. Make yourself and your practice a priority.
We just met you, but we already like you. You owe it to yourself to make your yoga practice a priority. As difficult as it is to say no to drinks after work, or to wake up extra early in the mornings to come to the studio, you will always feel better when you do. Empower yourself to make a healthy choice, and consider it your new version of happy hour.
If you have any other questions, please ask. We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable at YogaSport and we hope to see you again very soon.
