September Pose of the Month: Half Moon

Double Pigeon has flown away and given Pose of the Month status to Half Moon! September’s Pose of the Month is Half Moon (ardha chandrasana). This month your YogaSport Instructors will guide you into this posture to help build strength, balance and focus!

BENEFITS
• Strengthens ankles, thighs, abdomen and spine
• Improves coordination and balance

KEY ALIGNMENT POINTS
• Create a straight line from your bottom hand to your top hand
• Straighten your legs
• Press your back foot to the back of the room

 

STEP BY STEP
1. From forward fold, extend your right leg to the back of the room.
2. Tighten your left thigh.
3. Plant your left hand a foot in front of your left baby toe.
4. Place your right hand on your right hip and gently rotate your hip open.
5. Squeeze your right thigh.
6. Extend your right hand to the ceiling.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT – MATTHEW MAZUR

How long have you have been practicing at YS? Since November 2017

What is your favorite YS workshop or class? Power Flow with Katie- her style of teaching has pushed me to grow a lot in my practice. I always leave her class feeling relaxed and energized!

Name one thing you consider yourself to be very good at: I’m really good at drawing and making waffles.

What’s the number one yoga pose you just love to practice? Crow pose- it’s a great grounding pose and I hope it’s building the strength needed in my core to be able to handstand one day.

Why did you start practicing yoga? I hate the gym! I wanted to focus on a workout that could bring me more than just superficial results. After I started yoga, I was addicted to the focused mental side of the practice and the art of being able to remain still and calm under challenging circumstances.

Who inspires you the most and why? Rupaul- I love his pep talks and how he always says to choose love, stay engaged with the moment, and to never listen to your inner saboteur. Rupaul’s best quote- “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”

What do you just love about YogaSport? The strong sense of community and that the teachers aren’t afraid to let loose and make the classes fun.

What’s your guilty pleasure? Ice Cream!

What is one thing we don’t know about you that would surprise us? I am very lucky! I win things all the time like trips and gift cards. I even won a brand new car last year!

Full-Time Studio & Sales Manager Wanted

Are you a natural sales person who’s driven to reach revenue goals while truly changing people’s lives? YogaSport (YS) is hiring a Studio & Sales Manager who will be focused on increasing new client memberships, keeping our clients focused on their goals, marketing studio classes and events, and managing the day-to-day operations of the studio.

The YS Manager is an incredibly positive human being who thrives in a fast-paced and energetic environment. S/he learns quickly on her/his feet and adapts to people and situations as needed, without getting easily overwhelmed. S/he is comfortable on the phone and in-person setting appointments and following up with clients. S/he is driven to create real sales growth and passionate about customer service.

This is a full-time position. It includes a $40K base salary + commission and quarterly performance based-bonuses, paid time off, paid holidays, a YogaSport membership for two, and free admission to all YS-led workshops and 200-Hr Teacher Training.

Required Qualifications/Skills
The ideal candidate must have the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

• Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills and a sense of urgency when responding to clients, vendors, and staff
• The capacity to take initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and independently problem-solve
• An unwavering positive attitude
• A strong work ethic and commitment to getting projects done efficiently and with great care
• Punctuality, reliability, and dependability
• Adaptability and self-motivation– you will be working collaboratively with the studio team as a whole, one-on-one with the owner, as well as individually
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, social media platforms, WordPress, email marketing platforms, mad keyboarding skills, and the ability to learn and manage a client database. (training is, of course, provided)
• Commitment to personal growth through a regular YS yoga practice and active participation in YS workshops and trainings
• Required to live no farther than 25 miles from the studio
• Must have a car to run studio errands, purchase supplies, and visit businesses
• A minimum of 1-2 years experience in sales and marketing

What is your favorite YS workshop or class? All of them! I am a morning person so the early classes really help kick start my day.

Name one thing  you  consider yourself to be very good at: Providing the positive outlook

 

What’s the number one yoga pose you  just love to practice? Pigeon out of necessity and any challenging balance pose to keep me on my toes or rather off my toes

 

Why did  you start practicing yoga? Curiosity. I’m a very curious person.

Who  inspires  you  the most and why? Not one individual, but everyone I meet. Each with their own struggle, strengths and goals helps put life in perspective.

 

What do you  just love about YogaSport? The community and atmosphere are unlike any other studio I’ve been to. It is a welcoming family.

What is your favorite YS workshop or class? I don’t think I could have one. They all combine to make a great experience!

Name one thing you consider yourself to be very good at: Artsy Stuff

What’s the number one yoga pose you just love to practice? Half Moon, because it feels so freeing. And it’s challenging enough that I have room to grow in it.

Why did you start practicing yoga? For self-awareness and the calming benefits.

Who inspires you the most and why? My husband, because he’s the most balanced person I’ve ever known. Also the funniest!

What do you just love about YogaSport? I love the community here, how I’m always learning something new, and how the practice is more physically challenging than other yoga.

What’s your guilty pleasure? McDonald’s French Fries!

August Pose of the Month: Revolving Half Moon

August is here! This pose appears less frequently in our routine practice, but has amazing benefits for the body and mind. During the month of August, your YogaSport teachers and assistants will guide you into a more powerful, lighter Revolving Half Moon as you access less-used muscles in your ankles, thighs, hips, and glutes. You will also rinse and wring out your internal organs through this deep standing twist AND challenge your mental focus.  See below for key alignment points and step by step directions for building your Revolving Half Moon.

BENEFITS
• Strengthens ankles, legs and glutes
• Increases balance
• Rinses internal organs

KEY ALIGNMENT POINTS
• Square your hips to the earth
• Straighten your legs
• Lift your chest up in line with your legs
• Press your back foot to the back of the room

STEP BY STEP
1. From Airplane Pose (right foot standing), place your left hand on the ground, or a block, a foot in front of your big toe.
2. Extend your right hand to the sky.
3. Press your right foot down, straighten your standing leg and lift your standing (right) hip as you draw your left hip down.
4. Lengthen the crown of your head forward and twist, stacking your right shoulder over your left.
5. To challenge your balance, gaze up to your right thumb.
